LABORATORY APPLICATIONS
The primary use of Quartzdyne Series DS Transducers in laboratories is for calibrating
other downhole transducers and strain gauge / piezoresistive sensors.
Quartzdyne Series DS transducers are used as "in-house pressure standards" for calibrating process transducers. They are also used for a few single point
measurements of critical process parameters.
Two Quartzdyne transducers can be used for high stability differential
pressure measurement. A common application
is measuring the pressure drop across a rock sample in a laboratory
measurement of permeability. There are lower cost differential
pressure transducers which are more commonly used to measure
permeability, but it is easy to demonstrate the cost effectiveness
of more accurate measurements. (While most of the permeability
measurements use Series DS transducers, some test designs
have required higher temperature transducers.)
Where necessary, Series DS transducers can be locally certified to better performance
levels than the Quartzdyne calibrations. Some units have been certified (by
NAMAS in the UK) to 0.01% of reading over the range of 10% FS to 90% FS. These
transducers are certified for use as transfer standards for calibrating (0.03% FS)
dead-weight testers.
